Hi I made some research about your idea and I ready to start. I found a really beautiful board with Ethernet and a lot of I/Os. It’s a Nucleo Board really easy to find, really cheap (around 25 euros) http://www.st.com/en/evaluation-tools/nucleo-f767zi.html It’s based on STMF7 (really close as STMF4) It could be a really good base to create a powerful parametric io expander. If other people want to help us it could be really efficient to have the same base easily available and cheap with integrated Ethernet interface.

We are working on a few ethernet projects in the STMBL repo. https://github.com/rene-dev/stmbl/tree/master/hw/kicad/bob/ethernet_bob https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2zFvhSV5ANc
