My first thought before using the program: I want shorter automatic links that are easier to remember and use less screen real estate. Something that normally maxes out at 5 characters would be ideal, e.g.
[2 characters: short year] [2 characters base-36 date] [1 character: sequence number] - e.g. Today's date is 2019-09-28 = 199S in this format, where S = 28 in base-36. (Removing I and O to avoid visual ambiguity makes it base-34.)
