Usually in business, to dethrone an existing monopoly, the product needs to find a novel or undeserved use, establish there, and only then start expand into weakening dominant player's turf. Or come up with an entirely different model of doing things, or something. Something more material than "but it's distributed".
I am wondering if there are some kind of applications that are only social-media adjacent, which would allow establishing some smaller but more sticky community that wouldn't be in direct competition with established Social Media platforms, while being able to do Social Media as well.
Examples:
Just throwing some ideas. Just something for people to stick around, and not just scroll through copies of what they've already seen on Twitter, just consuming more CPU and bandwidth.

No disrespect. The tech might be OK, etc. but it is a bit irrelevant. Having almost stopped using Nostr clients recently myself, I'm wondering if there's a reason to put any time here.
There were tons tons of distributed social media platforms over the years, and it was never the tech that killed them, but the network effects and lack of traction.
What exactly is the popularity gameplan here?
