This is the result after building RcppOctave against the binary distribution of octave, having symlinked the dylibs to .so's so RcppOctave finds them:

* R * demo * exec * inst * preparing package for lazy loading * help R(73211,0x7fff762f1310) malloc: * error for object 0x10fcdf220: pointer being freed was not allocated * set a breakpoint in malloc_error_break to debug /Library/Frameworks/R.framework/Resources/bin/INSTALL: line 34: 73210 Done echo 'tools:::.install_packages()' 73211 Abort trap: 6 | R_DEFAULT_PACKAGES= LC_COLLATE=C "${R_HOME}/bin/R" $myArgs --slave --args ${args}

The downloaded source packages are in ‘/private/var/folders/s1/_v14lsc56tv44hm304m07vn40000gq/T/Rtmpuk4Gbo/downloaded_packages’

This is a problem of incompatible toolchains on Mac. See issue #1.
