@julianpistorius offered a great suggestion to increase transparency of our org with open documentation published with a tool such as OSF.

This twitter thread sums up my understanding of OSF and GitHub for project management. Pros: more secure, long-term Cons: collaboration workflow less clear

Maybe, as an org, we don't collaborate enough for that con to come into play and we could create thorough documentation about how the community can collab via OSF.

OSF and GitHub aren't mutually exclusive when it comes to project management and collaboration. A useful way to think about when to use which platform is to think about when version control, task assignment, and automation might be needed

GitHub is good for

• Stuff that needs robust version control of text-based things
• The ability to compare differences between things
• Project management-y stuff like the ability assign tasks to individuals and track progress
• Work that can be structured like a coding project

OSF is good for

• Less structured work
• Collecting all resources for a project under one roof (links, procedures, meeting notes, literature, presentation materials)
• Acting as a higher-level organizational platform
• Linking together many services such that they can be accessed in the same place (GitHub, Google, Box, etc.)
• Including people that don't use GitHub in project work
• A "home page" for a project that has a barrier to entry that is essentially zero
