First of all, let me say that I really had a great time at the 1st Research and Development Meetup, it exceeded my humble expectations. The conversation lasted for 3:30 hours, everyone had a lot to share and was really well informed, overall it was super energising. Time just flew by, thank you all that joined.

For those who didn't have the chance to attend, RDM is a group for enthusiasts to learn and share their knowledge about the state of the art in Computer Science (could be expanded later). The difference between RDM and other tech meetups is that:

Everyone that attended had a ton of work they are eager to share and I believe that there is even more to come. As for the format, we quickly reached a consensus that a good format would be a Lectures/Talks + Hackathons, where every two meetups would be focused in a small subset of topics, being the first about explaining and introducing everyone to that topic, while the second meetup is focused on getting everyone hacking on that technology.

As an example, we can pick "PubSub" as a topic, and in one of the meetups, we would have several people talking about PubSub and what is available and the following meetup we would gather in an hackathon format to work in new PubSub implementations, contribute to available open source implementations or build something with the technology. The expect outcomes is a very well curated list of resources about PubSub that others can find and follow and a lot of new individuals that are comfortable and aware of the history of "PubSub" systems and aware of what is available. These resources will include papers, other presentations, open source tooling and any kind of other material available online.

Let's follow up and schedule what we want to learn on the second meetup in this issue https://github.com/research-development-meetup/discussion/issues/2

Please post comments and feedback about the meetup, such as what you enjoyed and your wish for what you want it to become :)
