The modular structure of the RSD and its PostgREST API offers the opportunity to integrate third party services. These services can run in dedicated containers, or even on different domains, and interact with the RSD via its API.

The RSD frontend is currently missing the a feature to integrate such services into the user interface. This feature could for example offer slots in different places of the DOM where external services could integrate their UI.

Preliminary list of possible slots:

in the side bar of a the software/project/organisation edit page
in the side bar of the user settings
in the user menu
in the add menu

Results of discussion in today's daily:

the RSD frontend provides a list of possible plugin slots that plugins can use to add links
a list of paths in settings.json points to the available plugins:

```
after login, the RSD NextJS container does a request to all plugins listed in settings.json, the plugin backends provide a list of links for the plugin slots
the plugin backend handles which links will be displayed, e.g. based on eduperson_entitlements that are received via HelmholtzID
