Highlighted software

Helmholtz will promote outstanding software on their RSD as "Helmholtz Software Spotlights". The software spotlights will be a separate page, where the latest spotlight should have a dedicated representation, followed by a list/grid of the previous Spotlights.

@jmaassen mentioned that NLESC would be in favour of a similar feature for the RSD.

I am writing down some requirements here to have a basis for the implementation. Comments and suggestions are welcome.

• make implementation more general, e.g. use "Highlights" as name for the RSD, but allow to assign a different name in the configuration
• In contrast to featured software on organisation level, highlights will be globally defined
• use a new table in the database for highlights
• add a new frontend page where only admins will be allowed to add or remove a software entry to the highlights
• add a separate page for the spotlights

I have created a very first idea on how to present the software highlights in the RSD:

The idea is to have a separate "Highlights" page that works similar to the usual software page. What makes it different:

• the latest updated highlight has a dedicated, larger entry at the top of the page. The entry will show more info like the infotext, participating organisations, mentions and contributors
• the grid below will only show software highlights and will be sorted by software_highlight.updated_at

There is also a suggestion for the frontpage. We could re-use the same component for the latest highlight.

Comments in this preview are enabled for all penpot users. (Apologies for using penpot, I could not create more figma spaces.)
