This is a PR to merge the prototype statey into develop. Apparently automatic merging is not possible, so, for now this should just be for testing until those are resolved. Note:
There are elements in the current develop that cause conflict with statey. However, they are not the elements that this merge shows as problematic. The merge conflicts are garden variety parameter changing, solely related to the functions introduced in the specl development chain, and should not be an issue.
