Drag and drop of notes not working because of BBT related scrypt in Zotero #2155

Open betamigo98 opened 2 years ago

betamigo98 commented 2 years ago

Hi and may thank for the work and the value you add with BBT, In Zotero I cannot drag and drop childnote either standalone notes. Trying to on/off plugins one by one, it seems like BBT is involved. I tried from zotero to libreoffice document and to a mail service. More details and error report posted in zotero here

Would you please take a look? Best regards

It looks like you did not upload an support log. The support log is important; it gives @retorquere your current BBT settings and a copy of the items under consideration as a test case so he can best replicate your issue, or build towards the desired behavior. Without it, @retorquere is effectively blind. Support logs are useful for both analysis and for enhancement requests; in the case of export enhancements, I need the copy of the references you have in mind.

If you did try to submit a support log, but the ID looked like D<number>, that is a Zotero debug report, which I cannot access. Please re-submit a BBT debug log by one of the methods below.

This request is much more likely than not to apply to you too @betamigo98, even if you think it unlikely. Please trust @retorquere when he says he will usually need one; he will more often than not just end up saying "please send a debug log". Let's just skip over the unnecesary delay this entails. Sending a debug log is very easy:

  1. If your issue relates to how BBT behaves around a specific reference(s), such as citekey generation or export, select at least one of the items(s) under consideration, right-click it, and submit an BBT support log from that popup menu. If the problem is with export, please do include a sample of what you see exported, and what you expected to see exported for these references.

  2. If the issue does not relate to references and is of a more general nature, generate an support log by restarting Zotero with debugging enabled (Help -> Debug Output Logging -> Restart with logging enabled), reproducing your problem, and selecting "Send Better BibTeX debug report..." from the help menu.

Once done, you will see a debug ID in red. Please post that debug id in the issue here.

Thank you!

Not related to reference supportlog ID : D598714194

retorquere commented 2 years ago

I can't access report IDs that look like D[number], you need to send a BBT support log, not a zotero log. ABBT support log if will have -euc or -apse in the ID.

betamigo98 commented 2 years ago

Oups sorry, here it should goes : 9NWT7AS9-euc PS: I tried again, and the drag and drop works for a google document (still not for mail service nor libreoffice). Good luck!

retorquere commented 2 years ago

And this is specific to bbt? Other translatiors do not have this problem?

retorquere commented 2 years ago

AFAICT you have chicago set as the D&D format? I'm not sure BBT should be involved at all. I've asked dstillman.

betamigo98 commented 2 years ago

Mmm after a re-do it seems that Mdnote is the plugin involved. ...owe you an apology

betamigo98 commented 2 years ago

I do have the Chicago style as default export format for notes. See picture below. image

betamigo98 commented 2 years ago

Last update: Mdnote seems to generate the unexpected behaviour, but so do the BBT. So it is probably both of them. report ID : ENUDI957-euc

betamigo98 commented 2 years ago

Same process with APA7th generate this suport log ID KW9RYBTT-euc. I was trying to drag a note in this github space for comment. Not in the log but I tried to drag and drop to libreoffice, same issue. Picture of preferences below: image

retorquere commented 2 years ago

The thing is BBT should not have been involved. You have APA set as quick-copy format, why BBT cannot preload translators is something I've bee trying to figure out for a long time, but Zotero should not be calling up the BBT translator here at all. I'll have to wait and see what dstillman says on the forums.

betamigo98 commented 2 years ago

Ok thanks for the info. Waiting for it I could just use the keyboard anyway.

retorquere commented 2 years ago

I've re-poked the issue on the forums, but if the devs aren't going to respond, there's nothing I can do.

ReaderGuy42 commented 2 years ago

Hi, I was having trouble dragging entries in Zotero, e.g. dragging to assign a tag or like moving an attachment between entries. It either didn't work at all, or was lagging really bad. And then I found this thread on the forums: https://forums.zotero.org/discussion/98245/dragging-articles-to-collections-is-slow/p1

So, I've disabled (and then re-enabled) the BBT plugin, and there's a definite change. I'm not sure how useful this is though.

Thanks :)

retorquere commented 2 years ago

As far as I know, disabling for overlay plugins like bbt means "don't load at next start". If you disable bbt all functionality will be as it was until zotero shutdown.

ReaderGuy42 commented 2 years ago

Yeah, sorry, I meant I did restart the program after each dis-/re-enable.

retorquere commented 2 years ago

I see. But I don't know how that could have a different effect from just restarting Zotero.

276562578 commented 2 years ago

Same issue, the annotation can't be ctrl+c or drag to other program after bbt enable and restart zotero. But it works after disable bbt and restart zotero.

retorquere commented 2 years ago

Still no response from the devs. Nothing I can do without that.

retorquere commented 2 years ago

I have re-prodded them on the forums and I have an open question on the dev-forums.
