Error when generating cite key with "editor" #249

Closed krlmlr closed 9 years ago

krlmlr commented 9 years ago

On my system (Ubuntu 15.04, recent Zotero and ZBB with ZotPlus), I cannot export items to either BibTeX or BibLaTeX anymore. The following message appears when I try to export a single item (all options unchecked):

screenshot from 2015-07-15 09 49 45

How can I troubleshoot this? Please advise.

retorquere commented 9 years ago

Can you right-click that item and select "report zotplus error", and paste the resulting ID here?

krlmlr commented 9 years ago

Thanks for the fast reply.

That already helps, but could you right-click on the reference and select "report ZotPlus error"? If you click through I get the full log including the reference that caused the error. After clicking through, you'll see a red code - that's what I need.

krlmlr commented 9 years ago

Thanks. After right-clicking and choosing "Report ZotPlus errors...", nothing happened. After that I accessed "Report ZotPlus errors..." from the "Gears" button again and submitted, the token is G27AWR8P-5NNH43EG. Did it once more right after trying to export as "BetterBibTeX", token: F48E6ZJC-T2SMJRUF.

retorquere commented 9 years ago

Thank, those logs explain why you can't submit the reference, but I'll need more info still. Could you

that should give me startup log of Zotero; I think not being able to export is collateral damage from a failed start of BBT.

retorquere commented 9 years ago

I think I may have found the problem -- could you try zotero-better-bibtex-1.0.8-2015-07-15@12:08:54.xpi from https://zotplus.github.io/better-bibtex/#debug ?

If that works, I'd still be very much interested in getting the reference that triggered it, so I can add it to the pool of tests to prevent future regressions -- if this does indeed fix it for you, the right-click-report should work again, and I'd have my test case.

retorquere commented 9 years ago

Please feel free to re-open if the new release didn't solve your problem, but I think this was it, and I didn't want to postpone a release. Still very much interested in that reference sample -- more testcase is always better!

krlmlr commented 9 years ago

Thanks for the quick fix, it works for me after updating to 1.1.1. I have attached a bunch of references I tried recently in Zotero RDF format. I can definitely confirm failure with the Walker (1977) reference with the 1.0.8 version (Zotero 4.0.27.6 on Ubuntu), but somehow I feel the failure is not related to particular references.

<dcterms:abstract>Sampling is the most versatile approximation technique available and is still one of the most powerful methods for building a one-pass synopsis of a data set in a streaming environment. Throughout the detailed review, a kind of taxonomic frame of sampling algorithms was presented; meanwhile, discussions and comparisons of representative sampling algorithms were performed. Due to the limitations of uniform sampling in some applications, the importance of using biased sampling methods in these scenarios was fully dissertated. Subsequently, we surveyed the application and development of sampling techniques, especially those traditional sampling techniques in data stream model. Finally, we discussed the research challenges and future directions of sampling problem in the context of data streams.</dcterms:abstract>

retorquere commented 9 years ago

I don't understand - do these work with 1.1.1 or not?

krlmlr commented 9 years ago

Walker (1977) failed today with 1.0.8, I can export all of them now with 1.1.1.

retorquere commented 9 years ago

Ok, so everything works then? Only the latest version is ever supported, so that it would fail on 1.0.8 is not something I can address.

krlmlr commented 9 years ago

Yes, I'm fine, thanks.

I think 1.0.8 was the most recent version when I reported the issue.
