The INSTALL file in Gargoyle (2011.1) is missing some important steps that are 
mentioned in the nice https://code.google.com/p/garglk/wiki/Developers document

For people installing Gargoyle system-wide, following the instructions in 
INSTALL will likely lead to a non-working or not optimally working Gargoyle 
installation.

First, instructions for running

    export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=.:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH

should be added (perhaps with a note that you can/should substitute ‘.’ 
with the path to the ‘dist’ folder).

Secondly, instructions telling you to copy the garglk.ini to the dist folder 
are also missing, which makes Gargoyle use bad defaults (for example, the 
‘built-in’ default font doesn’t support the game Aoteroa, which won last 
year’s IFComp).
