For OpenXR to work with reshade you need to use the reshade installer. See my recent post: https://github.com/retroluxfilm/reshade-vrtoolkit/issues/22#issuecomment-1880050955
I am being dense... the installation instructions may be be casuing me to loop out... The openXR intstaller dosen't include the dll files do we download just the openxr installer or do we download the universal toolkit and then the openxr installer?
No worries. Its not easy to understand when using OpenXR Reshade.
First You drop in the VRToolkit in the DCS bin
or bin-mt
(multithreading preview) folder.
https://github.com/retroluxfilm/reshade-vrtoolkit/releases/download/v1.1.0/VRToolkitReshadeUniversal_1.1.0.zip
(You dont need to rename the Dlls if you are planning to use OpenXR.)
Then you need to run the reshade installer I added in the last release: https://github.com/retroluxfilm/reshade-vrtoolkit/releases/download/v1.1.0/ReShade.Setup_5.9.3-preview.exe Select DCS out of the list and then select OpenXR as renderer. (You can keep all shaders unchecked.) The installer will install the DLLs not in the gamefolder itslef as it registers a OpenXR layer. If a "reshade.ini" is present in the game folder it knows when it should be enabled.
Hope it works now for you
thanks for the explanation, that is very clear, and stops me from bending round the axel :) it unfortunately doesn't seem to work :( again the effects seem to be present in 2D but not in VR
Do you use the native openXR implemention from DCS? Are you able to use SteamVR for testing if you can see the reshade icon in the Steam dashboard as seen here on step1: https://vrtoolkit.retrolux.de/configuration.html
I use a Varjo Aero, so openxr native is really my only option afaik
Thanks, Stuart

It still does not work for me, having done a bit of digging I wonder if it is this:
[cid:2e4ec426-07b5-49e3-8fa1-440d4af14af7]
that might be causing the conflict?

Not sure what to do with the ID you have given me :D. But what would be helpfull to find out why it is not working for you would be the Reshade.log that is created when you start DCS. its in the bin or bin-mt folder depending on what you use.
Ohh I forgot to mention that I use the public beta branch from DCS.
I'm also using the public beta branch, the GUID should have been an image, which basically the reshade dll is loaded in a directory (e.g. not program files) that might cause problems with some of mbucchia's add ins (Varjo Foveated for me) but having tried without the add-ins it didn't seem to make any difference
Did you check the Steam\steamapps\common\DCSWorld\bin-mt\
folder where you placed the contents of the vrtoolkit zip, if there is a reshade.log you can send me over?
For OpenXR the reshade dll are installed seperatly from the game folder into the folder c:\ProgramData\ReShade\
and registered through the registry as an Open XR Layer. So that is the correct behavior for reshade to hook into openXR.
sorry I have COVID at the moment and didnt get to it yesterday

ok went to it straight away, as i know if i leave it too long i will be feeling dreadful again ... I just installed 6.0 without add on support went into the tutorial in 2d (nothing visible in VR) set some basic settings (curves, colormatrix and vibrance) and they all showed up in 2D but not in VR...
When i install i am only selecting OpenXR (though it prompts me for this twice), I am not using Steam/SteamVR directly, though Varjo does use steam VR for tracking.
and this is ths log file after i have installed the reshade toolkit, again no UI was available in VR VRReShade.log
Thanks for the logs. From what I can see is that it is correctly installed and tries to hook your openXR device but seems not to fully get it. It just uses the reshade.ini (2D) and not the reshadeVR.ini (VR) to start the reshade instance. Both are started usually and also have entirely different settings that are used for each instance. Because of that you also have seperate ini files and you dont see the changes you made on your 2D view in VR and vice versa. For VR you usually use the VR dashboard in Steam to adjust the settings but that is not an option for you and you need to edit the reshadeVR.ini file to select the preset you want. Vrtoolkit has the default one already defined.
I hope for your swift recovery. Funny that I myself have covid right now but its already on its last days, so just waiting for a negative test. Take care!
Get well soon! and thanks for the help

It does not seem to work, whilst the 2d menu is present and does seem to work, it has no impact in VR? is it looking for SteamVR at all? as I don't use SteamVR
