I'll bring details from our conversation on Revolt from a few days ago back here so that we can have a better traceability of things.

@Kasahe and I both think that the amount of contributions you did in French was remarkable and some of them had mistakes that couldn't come from machine translation. It's a weird thing to say but that's how it is. Although a lot had to be edited later, a good part was fine and the rest served as a good starting point for the translation of the Android app.

However you have also contributed to two other languages: "Simplified Chinese" and Albanian. The simplified Chinese maintainer confirmed my initial suspicions, given the >600 translations in 3 hours, that machine translation had been used, although I could later confirm that French wasn't done with, or at least not just with, machine translation. I don't know anyone to check your Albanian translation, so I don't want to judge harshly based on it but I won't hide that I am sceptical of it as well.

If you had only done the French translations I would just be fine with you getting the translator badge, even if you don't seem to have the greatest mastery of English, just based on how many of the translations we could keep and how most of those I marked for edit just needed small corrections. Especially since you fixed some mistakes yourself after some were pointed out, while I was still trying to evaluate your translations to see if you had just used machine translation for all of it. But alas you did contribute around 400 translations to other languages that we cannot just overlook. Around 200 of those are on Albanian which, as I said before, we can't just reject but can't validate either. The other 200 are on simplified Chinese and were confirmed to be machine translated by the language's maintainer. They were salvageable since machine translation isn't as bad as before, but it's still not great and we don't want to reward people for using machine translation.

The point of the translator badge was to reward people who took time to contribute their knowledge of their language and English to help translating the app. You were warned by @Rexogamer to not use machine translation and she left the decision of whether to be lenient or not to me. Even though I said that I felt fine with it based on your French contributions and @Kasahe thought so as well, I still can't get it out of my head. Because I do feel very grateful for the contributions on French, but it feels like I would be rewarding using machine translation at the same time, and that doesn't sit right with me and kind of makes me want to veto it after all.

Anyway, this was mostly to summarise this here so that we can remember about it without trying to scour the translators' server every time we need some info we might have forgotten and to bring back attention on it since it didn't move after I gave my OK. Although as I now said, I feel weird about it still.

I'll leave this one for now to give y'all more of a chance to decide what to do - I will say, however, that I agree with you that their actions were rather troubling

@Hades785 To be honest, I only did the French translation without any automatic translation because it is my native language

Am I still on hold?
