Set Palm Detection to 1: xinput set-prop 12 "Synaptics Palm Detection" 1
Set Palm Dimensions to 5, 5: xinput set-prop 12 "Synaptics Palm Dimensions" 5, 5

I also want to make sure that the touchpad tap is disabled as this can be triggered whilst you're typing, which is bloody annoying.

This has been addressed by the addition of an .xinitrc file.

I'm not entirely convinced but will know more when I've been using the laptop a bit more.
