I think about readme's as a place where you can talk to your audience about what you're doing, what they'll find, and any dependencies with your project. It's also one of the places where you can sign you work. All to say, make sure you flesh out your read me with the essential elements about what someone might find in your project.

I like to use some standard boiler plate for my readme docs - this is something to think about the more you use github, or any git type tool. What are the things you want to be able to find right away for a project.
