(same as above)

I think users must register to Platypus downloads page for manual download. (Platypus download) I wonder if there is a method for automatic download, such as using FTP. Any ideas? I think asking Wellcome Trust Sanger or the Platypus management team, if we can allow people to use Platypus following its license (GNU GPLv3: http://choosealicense.com/licenses/gpl-3.0) so that we can include the compressed Platypus file in our pipeline would be a choice...

@alexbmp An automatic download may violate author's policy. So I think we should ask them (as you said).

@xenigmax I got this reply e-mail from a Platypus developer.

  1. We can include Platypus in our pipeline; it's distributed under a GPL license.
  2. About his "preferences", I think we can notice of him the total download counts.
  3. However, I think downloaders should decide whether they want update notices on Platypus. (Should make a configuration file about this.) How do you think?

@alexbmp I think you should not post your emails to a public space. So I deleted that part.

1) Good. Let's do it. 2),3) We do not collect personal information including emails. So..there is no way to do that.. a. Maybe we can let users know that there is a mailing list for Platypus. Just simply add that to readme or something. Then users can register if they want.. b. And.. you and I should register that mailing list, too

Shoot... I just found out others can also view our posts here. I'm sorry for that;; Thanks for deleting the part. 1) Updated my pull request 2), 3) Updated README.rst in the pull request. While downloading Platypus, I was automatically included in the mailing list, so okay. Since we included Platypus in our package, I think it's safe to say that any users who downloaded RainBow has also downloaded Platypus... I think that can suit Gerton's request about getting regular updates of download user counts. I also think users should enlist on the mailing list if they want to. I shared the current situation, very politely and thankfully, with Gerton about this.
