How can we be assured OpenStreetMap is more accurate than GSHHS? I understand SHP vector is used by openstreetmap.. For that matter, if OSM is confirmed to be more accurate, why not use it in lieu of our background basemap? (Probably too big)

OSM is much more accurate along coastlines in fine and medium detail, but the data does not currently include inland waterway coverage.
5.9 currently already uses a base map based on the SHP vector from the OSM database
read coastline data from new OSM basemap based on SHP vector this will increase accuracy and eliminate false positives
