Keep in mind (from Christian):

In the stories, do not use specific vote numbers unless they are essential. Instead, use percentages and say that in late-night returns the leader was “ahead” or “leading” or the loser was “behind” or “trailing.”
Note: We never know how many more votes have yet to be counted in any race. The great majority of ballots typically are counted by 11 p.m. or midnight Tuesday, but the results are not finalized until weeks later.
