Basically, I died in the nether, quit to the menu, restored from a previous backup (so had a new_world and a new_world_old save file), deleted the old one, and then quit the game without actually loading into the restored backup. When I reloaded the game a day later, no game is saved at all. In file explorer under users-> ... ->twitch->minecraft->instances->automaton->saves there is a new world file, which does not show in the game. How do I get one of the backups from the backups folder to restore??
Sounds like a common case of world corruption. You'll have to delete the level.dat file and rename the level.dat_old file to level.dat, or replace both files with copies from a backup.
