I just tested the compilation again on macOS. It works as described (except for omp). For omp to be found and working, #20 should be merged before merging this.
You might want to check the paragraph on libomp being optional whether you're happy with it.
The documentation also still needs to be build with doxygen. I did it on my laptop but it changed a lot more files than I expected. So I thought it best if you do it yourself since you know better what to do with doxygen.
