A Linux Development Desktop with VMware Horizon - Part I: Horizon - Robert Guske

Thanks to your guide, Robert, I finally have an Ubuntu VDI desktop pool up and running in my homelab! I was struggling for weeks and searching the internet, trying out and failing. But your guide did the trick! Sure, it's "only" 18.04, but that's my foundation, and I can reach for 22.04 now :-)

There is only one thing. My domain user is not yet member of the sudoers group. That's probably the point. As soon as I want to reboot the virtual machine, there is a login prompt asking for the password of the user I created during the basic VM setup.

I could not find a hint here in your guide. Did I miss something?

Cheers, Karl

Hi Karl, thanks a lot for your kind feedback and it really makes me happy that this guide isn't that outdated and useful. The user you are using with the Horizon Client, is it the same AD user? Is the domain name specified correctly? It's been a while since I installed and configured it the last time.

Yes, the user (let's name him "karl") I'm using / logging in to the Horizon client is an AD user and it is the same that is then going to logon to the Ubuntu VM. When I created the Ubuntu VM, I created a user called "setup". And this user is asking for his password when I'm going to reboot the VM when logged in as "karl".
