Can you please describe the package, why it would be useful to the distribution to be included by default @PratyushKing

  • (Reasons such as: I use this package often, are not valid as we need to keep disk image sizes to a minimum and you are free to install it on your own personal device yourself.)

Ok there is a valid reason as it can behave as a gui app in a terminal and is certainly a friendlier approachable text editor, on top of that, it's a suitable alternative to people who don't want to go as advanced as neovim and not too basic compared to gedit or nano, it kind of gives a more advanced touch, not to mention it installs like htop does with a launcher in applications menu so it feels like it's user friendly, last point to note, later on it will be much easier to write a rhino like theme for micro as compared to neovim or nano and I think gedit looks awful by default on installation with the line highlighting being white matching with text. I hope you consider it

ajstrongdev commented 11 months ago

To me it seems really specific and niche, and as such I would personally class it as bloating the distribution. Most people, for quick text editing will utilise something such as Nano, and for more serious works, a well-rounded editor such as Neovim/VSCode/JetBrains

I hadn't personally heard of Micro before this.

@oklopfer thoughts?

We already have vim, neovim, nano, and tiny - we don’t need a 5th default editor to be installed.

Agreed. Closing as "Not planned".
