Why do we need calinkit? #11

Why do we need a calinkit? Can we not plug an iPhone directly into the pi? If not, why not? And can a calinkit not be reverse engineered so the pi can do it?

Thanks

Unfortunately apple uses something called an MFI chip which allows only authorised devices to interact with the phone, the carlinkit already has this.

Hi Rhys,

Does it have to be a "carlink" dongle? I have a similar dongle called JoyeAuto WJAC-1. Would it be possible to make this work with your project? I have the (.apk) drivers for the dongle. The dongle works on my Pi with an Andorid Lineage setup, but I'd like to build it on raspbian.

I'm looking forward to your reply.

Regards, Remco
