This might just be my ignorance, but in my experience there is no really good free software Japanese IME. All of the ones I have tried work reasonably well but a lot of their kanji suggestions are way off or not present in their dictionaries. Even mozc, developed by Google, seems to be some inferior free software version of the actual IME they use for Google's keyboard. Is there really nothing really good out there? Could one of the existing engines be fairly easily brought to a higher quality by assembling better dictionaries?
