Reasoning behind "Basic Security Guide" #41

I've seen the "Basic Security Guide" published by Tech Solidary recommended. There are also a few more pages listed in the resources page. While some of the recommendations (like "Use a long passphrase to lock your devices") sound obvious, others (like "Use Chrome as your browser") are mysterious to me. I would like to see more of the reasoning behind each recommendation. I tried looking a bit but was unable to find discussions about the reasoning.

I'm pretty uncertain about the effort tag here. It might turn out to be really easy if there is existing discussion, but on the other hand if I have to re-derive everything by going back to first principles, that will take a lot of time.

Oh actually I just found a Hacker News discussion on this. I think I didn't find it before because the title is a bit different. This time I used the HN search, which I recently discovered to be quite useful.
