When did the importance of the following cause areas (and others) become known? animal welfare, women's rights, environmentalism, AI safety. I'm interested in this from the perspective of intellectual ideas behind the causes rather than when the cause areas became movements or mainstream. (The latter would be important from a movement-building perspective, but I am interested in this from a "Cause X" perspective.)
I'm curious about whether there is some pattern in how we discover more causes, and when we can expect new causes to be discovered. We can ask the same thing with "crucial considerations" instead of causes. When were various "crucial considerations" like astronomical waste, the great filter, orthogonality thesis, and so forth discovered? When can we expect the next "crucial consideration" to be discovered?
It might be worth looking at Jeremy Bentham, who endorsed many of these ideas before they were widely accepted. See also Yew-Kwang Ng.
