During the meeting:

we realized that there aren't many ways we can access text-based files of the newspapers on influenza archive
we looked at changing the project entirely, using secondary sources, contacting Carnegie Library (done on Thursday), and transcribing the text article-by-article

This week:

wait to hear back from Carnegie library
See if we can change the focus of the project entirely

I recommend using a voice to text program to transcribe your articles. I think that would be a lot faster than typing it. That's really frustrating that you can't find text articles. If you create a document with your elements/attributes first, you might be able to transcribe and mark up your documents at the same time.

I'm sorry that you guys hit a wall. Our group (Russian-Media) did as well in the sense that most news articles are protected by copyright. I'm sure you guys will work through it, and if not I don't doubt your competence to adjust fire on your project and proceed with a new topic. Good luck guys!

Sorry to hear that you guys have hit such a roadblock! Autumn's recommendation of a voice-to-text memo is a good idea, but I would be worried about how accurate the technology would be with the transcriptions. What other project ideas have you guys thought of if this topic falls through?
