Deeply nested fractions begin to overlap

What steps will reproduce the problem?

${a}_{0}+\frac{1}{{a}_{1}+\frac{1}{{a}_{2}+\frac{1}{{a}_{3}+\frac{1}{{a}_{4}}}}}
$

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

Symbols should not overlap -- but in the very smallest size in this
example, they do.

I recall there is a lower limit on the number of times a font size may be
reduced as the nesting gets deeper (to prevent infinite recursion).  As
this is a stock MathML example, perhaps this limit should be increased a
little bit.
