What steps will reproduce the problem?
Followed steps from this guide:

Also tried a slightly different script that is found by doing an issue search 
on this site.
results were both the same...

What netbook are you using this on?
mini10v UK with vodafone 60 day free trial

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

I Expect to connect!!!  instead i get the following message on the console:
ccl[245]    CCLExit: -6019 (Modem error, modem not responding.)

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
OSX 10.6.1 NBM .8.3 RC1

Update: after enabling the modem in windows 7 when I had downloaded the 
Function key software and hit F2, 
the modem started working perfectly in OSX. not sure what this means but it is 
very weird!
