Feature Request - FilemakerGO duplicate record #7

Closed RobRhodes closed 9 years ago

RobRhodes commented 10 years ago

For whatever reason (custom menus?) I am unable to duplicate records using filemaker go in any layout.

If duplicating a record poses any issues with UUID's or serial numbers, I would love to see a way to create essentially a duplicate record with a different slate.

Perhaps a button similar to add new camera? (Which can be used in a pinch, however, if you add a new camera and then change the slate in order to essentially duplicate a record, then your photos and number of takes hold over from the previous)

This comes in handy when a script supervisor is quick to use another letter on the slate, even when the cameras aren't changing. V7A for the shot and V7B for the plate. Having to re-enter things is a PAIN!

So you would want to duplicate all the takes too? Or just the header information?

Sam.

. The option to do either would be great.

If that's not possible / too difficult, keep the takes. I can delete them pretty quickly.

Duplicating the header makes sense, when would you find duplicating the takes useful (beyond the case we already are doing where you are adding another camera)?

What I'm thinking is something for header-duplication, but I would be scared about duplicating the slate, since it could end up with bogus values, what I'm thinking is that I would append something onto the slate (e.g. -1, -2), which you would just delete, but that at least in the default state, it would keep the slate a little bit unique.

Yeah, that makes sense.

Perhaps additionally the ability to copy a take from one slate to another slate/record would cover both scenarios.

I tried doing this with filemaker 11, and 13 didn't have any problems. Which version of filemaker were you using?

Also which version of the database were you using? I'm wondering if its a bug I fixed?

Try the latest beta at: https://github.com/richardssam/camera_reports/blob/beta/filemaker_11/ves_camera_reports.fp7?raw=true

Regardless, if I can re-create the bug you got, I'll definately try to fix it first, since I'm sure there will be other users who will try that (and/or new-record).

Thanks...

Sam.

There are definately some bug fixes since then, I have also just pushed out a version with more FM12 features.

Could you try it with this version: https://github.com/richardssam/camera_reports/blob/beta/filemaker_12/ves_camera_reports.fmp12?raw=true

What would really help me is if with the default database you could replicate what you do and the error you get? e.g. if its goto "slate 22ac" and then hit duplciate", or whether you then get errors when creating takes?

Thanks...

Sam.
