What causes a low ESS when comparing all models?

When comparing all models, ESSes are low:

20190829_esses

What is the major cause for this?

At razzo_project one can read that the complete 20190828 data can be downloaded here.

The ESSes can be found in results/esses.csv
The marginal likelihoods can be found in results/marg_liks.csv. Note that the ESSes there are the ESSes of the marginal likelihood estimation!

@Giappo: we can use another Montelbano round on this. Up for it?

This Issue went stale. Activity moved to #265, where the ESSes of different runs can be compared.
