FRENCH ACCENTS BEING STRIPPED BY UNIX BASED DATA LAODER PROGRAM

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Run an extract file having French characters in a text field using the 
dataloader.jar program

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
EXPECTED - SEE FRENCH CHARACTERS WITH ACCENTS
ACTUAL - FRENCH ACCENTS ARE REPLACED WITH DUMMY CHARACTER

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
unix

Hello,
If you have reached the point of running the script and exporting the file, 
then the issue is with the Data Loader (dataloader.jar), not with CLIq.  I have 
not developed the dataloader.jar in any way - that is fully developed by 
Salesforce.com.

Make sure the file is written in UTF8 and that you are using a UTF8 capable 
viewer.
