Change the name to avoid a catastrophic trademark smackdown #1

Domo-kun is an internationally held trademark, and NHK is unforgiving of infringement. They do business in the US, where Github is hosted, and if they hear about this project they may pursue it aggressively. To prevent this from happening, a rebranding may be necessary.

I have no suggestions for a new name at the moment.

Yep, this truly is a problem. Shouldn't be too hard to change the name at this point and Ill do it asap. This used to be a hobby project of mine so I didnt care too much about the name. Suggestions are welcome!

How about an anagram of domo-kun?

rikukissa commented 11 years ago

That just might work! One name we've been discussing about is ForkingDongles. NPM module name would be 'fdongles' from v1.0.0. Middlewares would be named fdongles-middleware-middlewareName and module names fdongles-moduleName

We're pretty much set with ForkingDongles at the moment. It's somewhat witty, unused, and related.

'botwerks' or something denoting that this is a budding framework for making bots would be cool. I don't understand the ForkingDongles reference or relevance. If I was looking through the npm repo, I would definitely not even look at ForkingDongles, despite the fact that this is exactly what I was looking for. I almost didn't even look at Domo-kun.

Other ones off the top of my head:

You have a point. I kind of like the name bottyshop! We'll have to discuss this a bit further with Circlepuller. There's still a lot to do before we can release v1.0, so we still have some time to think about this. Is it okay for us to use the names you suggested @bitfed?

bitfed commented 11 years ago

By all means, totally.
