I was at a restaurant, had my phone on LTE, no wifi. Not sure if that's relevant, but it might be. Used the in-app browser to search for roms, went to coolrom. Found Classic NES - Super Mario Bros. (this ROM seems to inspire lots of bugs...) and downloaded it. As soon as the app returned to the ROM library screen, the ROM was greyed out. I couldn't click on it to play it, couldn't delete it, and couldn't hold-click to rename it.
To fix: I closed the app from multitasking and restarted it. Rom was no longer greyed out.
