Move all the geomodels to https://github.com/ringmesh/RINGMeshData
Add a git submodule to this new repository
Automatically initialize the submodule at RINGMesh configuration

The goals are:

Externalize the data
Reduce RINGMesh repository size
Allow all plugins to get the same data from one repository

You wrote "Automatically initialize the submodule at RINGMesh configuration". So no need to add an option to the git clone command? If yes, can we do your method for the third parties later?
