There is a Task Group dedicated to defining the discovery mechanism for RISC-V, and as such defining how the trace encoder is discovered was considered out of scope for the E-Trace (and N-Trace) specs. I realize this is not ideal, and this very same topic was the subject of some recent discussion - see @.**@.>.

I didn't find the specific definitions of the fields in the discovery related register trTeDiscovery0..trTeDiscovery7 of Trace Encoder Registers in . This makes it difficult for us to know how to perform discovery, as there are not many descriptions of discovery in the spec.
