Mapping prints-as-ms to prints-as-prints #16

CH-data have many prints catalogued as ms. collections or ms. single items. @xhero Please make me an XL table with: column 1 = RISM-CH ID of 'source type'='Print' and 'template type'='music manuscript, collection parent record' column 2 = 100 column 3 = 245 column 4 = 260 column 5 = 300 column 6 = 500 column 7 = 505 column 8 = 691 column 9 = 510 column 10 = 596 The following xl table has a first proposal to map fields from prints-as-ms. in RISM-CH to A/I prints in Big Muscat. @lpugin What shall we do with 594/598? mapping_ms_to_pr.xlsx

Here's the workflow of the ZR. We might use the same, especially nos. 1 and 5.

  1. To A/I record, add the 500 note "This record was merged with RISM ID no. ... " or "Datensatz zusammengeführt mit RISM ID ... "
  2. In the A/I record, fill out 588 field with siglum and shelfmark of "manuscript" record
  3. Copy and paste all core bibliographic information from "manuscript" record over to A/I record
  4. Copy and paste the copy-specific info from "manuscript" record to the holdings information of the A/I record. (Sometimes there was already a holdings record, sometimes there was not).
  5. Sometimes a "manuscript" record had 1 material group that described a manuscript and 1 group that described a print. When that was the case, we could keep the manuscript information on the manuscript record, add holdings to the A/I print record (plus other relevant copy-specific details mentioned in the record), and then delete the "print" material group from the manuscript record. We also add notes that include cross-references to the respective print and manuscript records.
  6. Delete the "manuscript" record
  7. Write down on a list the "manuscript" records that were deleted, just in case anyone ever asks in the future.

Here's a proposal for a workflow:

PARENT RECORDS

  1. SPLIT e.g. 400008101: ms. and prints as 'mixed-type' material groups. Check 245/300/500/505/691 by hand, then maintain 'ms' record by eliminating the print 593 and adding a 500; for the print material group, see MERGE if existing in A/I. Additional 500 in A/I holding ="See RISM ID no. "&#REF!&" for additional manuscript material (same institution and shelfmark)." Additional 500 in ms. record ="See RISM ID no. "&#REF!&" for additional printed material (same institution and shelfmark)."
  2. PURGE If in 'mixed-type' material groups the printed material is not listed in A/I, or if the ms. material is clearly minor, add a 500: ="Additional material enclosed: "&[300, 260 from the deleted material group]
  3. MERGE e.g. 400006600: only one kind of 593 and with 596 RISM. Check 300/500/505/691 by hand, then merge with existing A/I bib-record, and update holding, adding a 500 in both: Additional 500 in print bib-record and holding ="This record was merged with RISM ID no. "&#REF! If target bib-record is better (e.g. 991014242), only add 500 in holding.
  4. MIGRATE e.g. 400100912: only one 593 and no 596 RISM. Check A/I by hand (if present, see MERGE), check 300/500/505/691 by hand, then map to print template + holding maintaining the ID number. INDIVIDUAL RECORDS
  5. ITEMS IN COLLECTIONS (with 773) e.g. 400003757: attach to new ID if necessary, then migrate, but deleting copy-specific notes (no holdings in child records!)
  6. ONE-WORK EDITIONS (without 773) e.g. 400006358: SPLIT, PURGE, MERGE or MIGRATE as appropriate
