will uxstyle work on the creator update? i realise themes still have to be updated, but is this patch still working?

diffficult commented 7 years ago

No it won't. Before patching to the new Creators Update, remove any theme files from the Resources folder inside Windows and cleanly uninstall uxstyle. That means, uninstall and reboot. Leave Windows back on the stock theme before launching the update. Once you done that you won't have any problems at all with the update as long as there are no weird system files modded around. After installing you need themes that have actually been updated to work with the new Creators Update and in order to make them work the only solution so far is the UXtheme patcher (current version 3.2.0). I do hope to see an update because it's better to have uxstyle running than just dirty patching system files that probably will be reverted back to original after every other updates you get in the future.

Hope uxstyle can get working again. Can we expect an update of uxstyle before 1607 [defer feature updates] option reach it deadline to 1703?

Installing UxStyle on Windows 10 Creators Update will results in explorer.exe can't start after login. But I found out a workaround to make UxStyle runs (just remember, because it works for me doesn't mean it works for you)

  1. At the black screen, press Ctrl-Shift-Esc to launch Task Manager
  2. Go to the Services tab and disable the UnsignedThemes service
  3. Click File -> Run new task, type in "explorer" (don't type the quotes) and click OK
  4. Explorer will then run, so go back to the Services tab and re-enable the service.

@longnguyen2004 riverar is already aware, that's why I posted a possible solution in the meantime to use themes and also you have more than one thread explaining why you don't have to upgrade with uxstyle installed or try to use it afterwards.

None of this will work properly due to https://github.com/riverar/uxstyle/issues/37. Dupe.

To uninstall UxStyle without explorer.exe, follow these steps:

  1. Press Windows key + R to launch Run dialog box
  2. Type appwiz.cpl into the Run dialog box and Click OK.
  3. Uninstall UxStyle
  4. Reboot

Like a many other users, I am unable to uninstall UxStyle following the automatic Win 10 update to 1703.

UxStyle was installed about a year ago when I tried Winaero. I found issues with Winaero, so I removed it, but the uninstaller did not remove UxStyle.

Attempting to uninstall from Control Panel gives a message 'UxStyle doesn't work on this version of Windows. An updated app may be available'.

This is causing the latest Windows 10 update to 1709 to fail with error 0xC1900208 (incompatible software installed).

I am unable to easily roll back Windows prior to the 1703 update in order to uninstall UxStyle since the update took place some months ago. Resorting to resetting Windows now would incur a huge amount of work.

I am completely stuck. How do I uninstall UxStyle?
