Set up a way to donate to this project #63

This is my favorite Authentication solution I've found by far. @riverrun can you set up some kind of way for people to donate to this project? I 'd like to see it succeed and if getting you paid some helps that then I'm in.

dikaio commented 6 years ago

I'd also be willing to do this @riverrun. I need more help is needed technically, I wish I was capable or felt confident enough in my elixir skills to help out but I'd be more than happy to donate to the project as @BryanJBryce has mentioned.

riverrun commented 6 years ago

Do you have any suggestions (any links) about how to set this up?

dikaio commented 6 years ago

Hey @riverrun how about Patreon? I think that would be the easiest and then mention it here in the readme. Offer to link back out to the bigger monthly contributors etc. I believe that's the norm that I've seen.

BryanJBryce commented 6 years ago

A simple PayPal account works too. Also https://flattr.com was built from the ground up for open source.

BryanJBryce commented 6 years ago

Looks like Flattr and Patreon have around a 10% fee. There's Venmo as well, not sure if it's meant for that. PayPal is higher unless you set up a non-profit business.

riverrun commented 6 years ago

Great! Thanks for the info. I'll let you know what I come up with.

Would also like to chip in, this is by far the best auth library I've used. I've heard good things about https://www.buymeacoffee.com/ if you don't want to set up subscriptions like Patreon.

BryanJBryce commented 5 years ago

@riverrun Any updates on this?

riverrun commented 5 years ago

I am thinking of setting up a Patreon account for me as a developer (rather than solely for this project), and then anyone who wants to make donations for the work on Phauxth or any of the password hashing libraries I maintain can do so there.

How does that sound?

dikaio commented 5 years ago

I'm in please get it started @riverrun, long overdue imo.

joshchernoff commented 5 years ago

You could always just setup a simple stripe payment.

dikaio commented 5 years ago

Not sure if a donate page was ever going to get setup so I just sent money via venmo to David. He gets all the funds that way compared to using another service that takes a portion of it.

riverrun commented 5 years ago

@dikaio thanks for the donation and the encouragement. Unfortunately, I don't think I can access funds through Venmo because I am not based in US (I am based in Thailand).

I'll have an update about the donation options very soon.

dikaio commented 5 years ago

Hi @riverrun. I think Venmo allows for international transfer but not sure how much trouble it would be. I just canceled the transaction and will wait on your fund me page 👍

riverrun commented 5 years ago

@BryanJBryce @dikaio @miguel-s @joshchernoff I have just set up a page at Patreon - here is the link https://www.patreon.com/riverrun

If you have any problems using that link, please let me know.

If you want to make a one-off payment, this page can give you some info about how to do that.

Apologies that this has taken so long to set up - I have had a crazy busy year, and I feel completely worn out at the moment, so everything is taking a little longer than it should do.

If you have any comments / questions, etc., feel free to let me know.

Time to edit the Read Me!

BryanJBryce commented 5 years ago

Take a look at #99 and see if that works for you @riverrun.

riverrun commented 5 years ago

@BryanJBryce @dikaio @miguel-s @joshchernoff I have had a few problems with Patreon, so I am going to stop using their services. I have updated the README with information about donating directly via PayPal.
