I've been working on an application where access to the generating cycles would be very helpful. (Specifically, I'd like to identify cosmological voids in distributions of galaxies.) Most of the commutative algebra is beyond me (I'm a physicist). Do the difficulties with extracting cycles have more to do with getting this information out of the augmented arrangement, or with some of the relations represented by $\xi_2$? Cheers, Alex
Thanks for letting us know about the application. I don't believe that there are any real issues in principle with obtaining generating cycles; our pipeline ought to extend readily. That said, actually implementing this would take some work.

@delooper mentions that he'd like some way to access the generating cycles. The various issues with computing cycle representatives notwithstanding, I imagine that this is something other users might also find helpful.
