Service Unavailable until I dial an extension

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Phone does not register with asterisk sip server unless I dial an extension. 
After I dial that 
extension, then it shows connected. This is annoying because if I forget to 
dial the extension 
after I open the program, I will get an unavailable.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Should be connected as soon as the program starts

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Latest version, iPhone 2.2
