I am connecting to freeswitch, and from there I go out via VoicePulse to PSTN
lines.
If I call a number that gets routed to the PSTN, I hear ringback. If I call a local
freeswitch extension, I hear nothing (and the screen says "calling") until the
extension answers.

In this case, I think it's the freeswitch extension that doesn't send the
correct code.

It depends on if you get a 180 or 183 with SDP. We are sending a 180 then its
the phones job to generate
ringback locally not ours. FreeSWITCH can generate ringback if the ringback
variable is set to say ${us-ring} but
we follow the rules and relay early media from the PSTN back to you if it
exists. But in some cases like calling
from Siphon to say a Snom will result in a 180 getting passed back to you which
means Siphon has to produce
the ringback locally.

I also confirm that with just a 180, no ringback is heard in Siphon. But
something
really odd happens when I set Asterisk to do early media (180 followed by a
183) by
setting progressinband=yes (separate bug report).
