CJK fonts is this family do not work with XeTeX

When compiling a TeX file using Noto Sans S Chinese, I get the following 
warnings:

** WARNING ** Failed to load ToUnicode CMap for font "NotoSansHans-Regular"
** WARNING ** Glyph for CID 18367 missing in font
"/path/to/NotoSansHans-Regular.otf"
(and many similar lines)

The result PDF document is a mess.

This relates to the xdvipdfmx driver that generates the PDF, but it's a very 
long time since I looked at that code (and I never knew much about the 
font-embedding stuff anyway). The authors of dvipdfmx 
(http://project.ktug.org/dvipdfmx/) might be able to advise, if they're 
currently active and available.

FWIW, I notice that FontForge also seems to have trouble reading those fonts 
("unable to find a cidmap"). This sounds like it may be related ...
