Noto is causing Photoshop CS5.1 to crash. #75

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Install Photoshop CS5.1.
2. Install all Note fonts.
3. Open a PSD file that has any font layout.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Photoshop just crash every 1~2min after opening it.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Latest version of Noto, Photoshop CS5.1 (64bit), Windows 7 SP1 (Simplified
Chinese Interface)

Please provide any additional information below.
Today my Photoshop started to crash almost every time when I open a PSD. So I
started to recall what have I done to my Windows 7 (I'm a Ubuntu user so I
don't use Windows very open), the only thing I remember was the new font set (a
total of 151 fonts of the noto family) I installed
(blog.typekit.com/alternate/source-han-sans-cht/). After I removed those fonts,
Photoshop just stop crashing.

Thanks a lot for the report.

Unfortunately I don't have quick access to setups similar to yours. My guess is
that a certain font or set of fonts is causing this, not all of them together.
The fonts are developed in collaboration with different partners, and each has
a different production environment.

Would you please try installing everything except the Chinese, Japanese, and
Korean fonts and see if the problem persists?

It would also be useful to try this in Photoshop CS5.5 and CS6, and even CC and
CC 2014. CS5.1 is several versions old now.

I can confirm that it's caused by one of the noto fonts, but not sure which
one, I had the same problem and uninstalled all only to install the normal ones
and it working fine again.

This problem is still occurring for me with CS 5.5 64/32 bit versions. I
installed the complete set.

Adobe's testing suggests that the NotoSansBamum-Regular.ttf font is one of the
culprits (there may be more Noto fonts that induce a crash, but none of the
Noto Sans CJK fonts appear to do so).

Also, and perhaps more importantly, Photoshop CS6 (and later) does not crash
when this particular font is installed. Photoshop CS5 and its dot releases had
known crashing issues with regard to some fonts, so we recommend using
Photoshop CS6 or greater (Photoshop CS 5 is three major versions older than the
current version, which is CC 2014).
