Add option to record system sound instead of from microphone #17

It would be nice to have a toggle for the desktop recorder that switches between recording sound from the input device to recording sound from the output, so anything I would normally hear through my speakers will record straight onto the video without capturing any background distortion through the speakers

I think this particular issue would be better addressed by adding a custom entry to the support.json file. However I do think it'd be nifty to allow custom toggle buttons via that file, so it's worth looking into it. Low-priority, but would be nice.

@imarkskinner could you clarify this a bit? Is the intent here that you'd have a toggle button and you'd be using this during a recording? Or use this before recording? What recording program are you using at the moment?

I've been using FFmpeg, I wouldn't expect the sound source to change halfway through a recording, but to be able to toggle the sound source before the recording would be nice. So to clarify what I mean, if im sitting at my desktop with some music playing in banshee and talking to myself at the moment if i started screencasting I would hear my own voice and also the echo of the music playing from my speakers getting back to the microphone, it would be good to have a toggle so it would not record my voice at all but would record the sound of music playing in perfect clarity or any other sounds the system is making.

Closing this..albeit 3 years late. Something may already be possible using custom entries in the support.json.
