can you SS all of your redirects? maybe one is causing the issue

Possibly has something to do with media temple (http://buildwithcraft.com/help/forms-returning-json) I switched to the Craft basic .htaccess file, and that helped some. Truth is, I don't even need these redirects on the staging server, and everything works on the live server, so I am just going to leave well enough alone.

you must be on the GS. Their htaccess files are retarded.

i've abandoned media temple... for all too many reasons. I just use digi ocean now, the performance increase is quite dramatic.
