Extension fails to interact with todo.txt #9

So, for a brief two moments I was able to get a list of my todo.txt file withing Thunderbird. Once I attempted to test creating a new todo, it simply gave me an error message. I would list it here, but i forget what the error was.

Currently, it won't even connect to the file at all. It simply remains blank and any attempt to interact with it results in a MODIFICATION_FAILED error. I've restarted the app, my computer, uninstalled and reinstalled the extension, etc.

I would love to have this extension working, as it would make Thunderbird my go to application.

Hi,

Thank you for the feedback. Unfortunately it is currently not possible to add items to the todo.txt without first selecting the calendar in the calendar overview. Also please note that the calendar only accepts tasks and not events. I mainly use it within the sidebar as tasks.

But that it remains blank is indeed an issue. Is it maybe possible that you post your todo.txt here so that I could use for testing and hopefully fix the issue. Thank you again.

Alright, so interestingly enough I opted to install the add-on to my PC at home running Ubuntu. Everything works great, I am able to add tasks, complete them, etc. The only odd thing is that tasks I add (as well as one I added from my phone a few hours ago) appear green within the list, not a big deal or anything, just don't know why it does that.

Anyways, I have attached my todo.txt file. This is the same one I used on my Mac, when it did not work, as on my Ubuntu PC, where it is working. todo.txt

Hi,

Sorry for my late reply but I have been quite busy lately. But I also do not have access to a Mac, so I'll look to great a VM for the MacOs so that I can hopefully reproduce the issues and try to fix it. It is very strange that the add-on behaves differently on the different OS's.

Regarding the appearing of 'green' in the add-ons, that is done by Thunderbird. I set the creationtime of the todo in Thunderbird tasks which shows it as green if it is not yet finished. You can disable this property within the properties of the add-on. If you have any further questions please let me know, and I'll try to reproduce your errors as soon as possible.

I have the same problem, only using Win10. I am use the freebee version on ToDoist, do I need to be be a Premium user to get the synchronization feature?

Hi, I am also looking for that functionality. I am thinking if there is a way to make a reference to the currently selected calendar and then switch to the todo.txt calendar as the task is added and then switch back to the initial calendar?

Hi, I also seem to be having this problem (Linux Cinnamon 64bit, TB: 52.9.1 64-bit). I have set the locations of todo.txt & done.txt in the preferences for the add-on. I got the file in to TB. I can edit tasks. When I add new categories, they do not persist (have to re-add, but then they vanish again).

Save/close, the synchronise button and and closing TB do not seem to update the todo.tx file.

Hi, This is now working, but I'm not sure why...

It may be that I was unclear how to set the locations of the text files and imported the file rather than synced it. Also, the preference for sync was set to auto / 30mins.

Can I suggest that the documentation clearly states where the preferences for this add on can be found (tools > add ons, NOT in TB preferences) and maybe suggest that to begin/test, sync is set to manual. In fact, I'll write it while I'm here and if you (the developer) thinks it is correct, feel free to use it (or adapt it).

  1. After installation, in Thunderbird, go to The Tools menu and select Add ons.
  2. Find the Todo.txt Extension in the add ons list and click the preferences button.
  3. Browse and set the locations of todo.txt & done.txt
  4. You can now close the add ons tab.
  5. From the Thunderbird edit menu, select 'Calendar Properties'
  6. Set the refresh calendar frequency option to suit you. When setting up, you may prefer to only sync manually with the button in the interface until you are ready for normal use.
