WIKI migration description #35

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 8 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
The procedure to migrate wiki is not described in the FAQ.
The wiki is migrated with syntax changes to separate branch, OK.
However, you need to make manual adjustments, some pages look strange.
As the pages are migrated to a separate branch only and not added to the GitHub
wiki, some more steps are required.

I am sure someone has thought about this already, but not finding good links.

Please add to the FAQ.

Yes, the wiki export doesn't seem to work very well at all.
It attempts to convert .wiki files to .md files, and frequently gets things
wrong :-(
Example: https://code.google.com/p/optiboot/wiki/GoodQuestions
https://github.com/WestfW/optiboot/blob/wiki/GoodQuestions.md

Another note: Images are not transferred. Only the .wiki pages are migrated,
not other folders (other than images too?).

The links still refer to Google Code, must be added manually to GitHub repo.

The wikiToMarkdown exporter may not handle these issues, but it should be
described:

A tool to handle the wiki branch to the wiki repo:
https://github.com/morgant/finishGoogleCodeGitHubWikiMigration

Images must be moved manually.
Links must be converted manually, many are incorrect with .md extensions
ProjectHome ->README requires speial handling for links to the wiki
Some image links are screwed up
