Password not copied #3

Hi, Thanks a lot for great plugin for unity, but its not copying the password as the original gnome plugin. Without password its of very little use, as it implies the user has to again open the reveleation application anyway.

Thanks again, Sohel

Hi Sohel,

great to hear that someone except me is getting some use out of the indicator :) Sorry, that you are having problems, though.

I just tried to copy passwords in my installation and it works as expected: right-clicking on the password in the pop-up opens up a context menu saying Copy Password. If I click that the password can be pasted anywhere.

Are you running the latest version of the indicator? Did you try and copy the password the way I described it above? Or did the gnome app allow for another way of copying passwords, that I have not integrated into the indicator?

Cheers, Seb

Hi Seb, Yes I got it now, I missed the last right click. Its great and one of the key utility stopping me from upgrade to unity.

I have few thoughts on this in case you find them interesting:

  1. The red icon it shows on top is not very attractive.. how about replacing by original revelation icon.
  2. This tool can be extended to add cloud support : Adding a preference to store passwords in one's google doc or dropbox etc.
  3. Add a command line mode to tool so that one can get password by calling :

reveleation -p masterPassword -n name -file fileName reveleation -p masterPassword -n name -cloudLink url

Need to think on security concerns if any...or we can add private key when uploading/downloading file to cloud.

With above command-line and cloud support the tool can really become universal for one's use of storing passwords on desktop or cloud and for use within scripts for automation, and no need for any duplication.

Thanks again for everything, Sohel

Hi Sohel,

I am glad to hear that it works for you now. It was really annoying for me, too, when I switched to unity. That's why it wrote it :)

Thanks for your input as well. My thoughts on it is as follows:

  1. I think this comes down to taste. I don't particularly like the Revelation icon as it does not integrate well with the style of the other unity indicators. I agree with you however that, as a developer, I am not the greatest of designers and am open to consider other ideas and suggestions.
  2. I am actually using Ubuntu One to share my revelation file between multiple machines. Although I agree with you that it is possible to integrate that into the indicator, I would suggest that this feature should go into the main revelation. As I am not working on that, I suggest you post a feature request on there issue tracker.
  3. Pretty much the same as in 2. I think this concerns the main application revelation than the indicator.

Feel free to get back to me with more suggestions regarding the indicator or any issues that you'll find.

Cheers, Seb
